Spotify Messages is a mobile-only feature for 16+ users that allows direct, in-app sharing of music, podcasts, and audiobooks with friends via 1:1 or group chats. Users can send content via the “Share” button, chat with text/emoji, and see listening activity in real-time, creating a centralized, social audio experience.
Messages on Spotify enable one-on-one conversations, that is, and allow users to share music, podcasts, audiobooks with their friends and family.
Users can share Spotify content with people they have previously interacted with on the platform. To share a song, podcast, or audiobook, go to Now Playing view and tap the Share button. Select the friend you want to share the content with, and tap Send. Tap your profile photo in the upper left corner to access messages. When you accept a message request from a Spotify user, you can communicate with them via text, react with emojis, and share content between each other.
Spotify will suggest users to send messages to based on past activity, such as people you’ve shared Spotify content with, or joined together in Jams, Blends, or collaborative playlists. It will also give users suggestions if you share a Family or Duo plan with other people.
Don’t like the feature? You can opt out of messages from Settings. Users will be able to decline message requests, block users, and report messages to the company if they see illegal or harmful content. Spotify says Messages are secured with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. It also says it will use proactive detection technology to scan messages for certain unlawful and harmful content, and our moderators will review reported content. Wait, so aren’t they end-to-end encrypted?
Messages will roll out starting this week for Spotify Free and Premium users aged 16 and older in select markets on mobile devices. It’s unclear whether messaging will come to Spotify on the web for desktop computers.
Spotify has recently announced its Spotify Premium prices are rising across multiple markets, including South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Subscriptions will go from €10.99 to €11.99. The new prices will be effective from September.

Spotify messages on desktop
As of early 2026, Spotify’s new messaging feature, which allows 1:1 and group chats to share music/podcasts directly, is designed primarily for mobile apps and is not officially supported or available on the desktop application. Although you can manage messages and send content via mobile, desktop users cannot currently access these chat features.
- Availability: Mainly mobile (iOS/Android), with support for 1:1 and group chats (up to 10 friends) until January 2026.
- Functionality: Allows sharing of songs, albums and podcasts directly within the chat.
- Desktop status: This feature is not currently available on the desktop app.
- Controls: You can manage message notifications and privacy settings through Settings > Privacy > Social in the mobile app.
- Options: To share music on desktop, use the “Share” button to copy the link or send it to social media platforms.
