YouTube TV is launching TV plans early next year. These will be available in genre-specific packages.
Why? Well, it’s quite obvious, the price. YouTube TV costs $82.99 per month. That’s a lot of money, and not all customers want access to games and other content they may not be interested in. So the price seems inflated, because you may be paying for things you don’t see./
You might remember that YouTube TV was in a tough spot last month, when Google and Disney went head-to-head over a contract renewal dispute, which led to the shutdown of Disney, ESPN, etc. This left 10+ million customers deprived of access to live sporting events. Google issued a one-time credit of $20 to compensate users, but the situation was quickly resolved, and Disney restored access to its channels on YouTube.
Now, Google has come up with an idea to solve this problem, YouTube TV Sports Plan. It will provide access to major broadcasters and sports networks such as FS1, NBC Sports Network, all ESPN networks, as well as ESPN Unlimited. Users can opt for add-ons like NFL Sunday Ticket and RedZone. They will also get access to unlimited DVR, multiview, main drama and fantasy scenes.
YouTube hasn’t announced pricing or other details about its upcoming plans. but this has confirmed The main plan, which offers access to 100+ channels, is here to stay. Subscribers can choose genre-specific plans such as Sports, or Sports and News, or Family and Entertainment.
It’s definitely an interesting approach, much like what cable and other TV providers do with add-on packs. And that’s how it should have been done in the first place. Hopefully, the new plans will help people save some money, even if just on like one or two specific styles. The affordable plans could also help YouTube TV attract more subscribers.
