Linux gaming continues to grow in popularity valve and its Proton compatibility layer. with the release of Proton 10.0-4Steam users on Linux can now play 19 additional games that previously required experimental builds, as well as several bug fixes that improve stability and performance across the board.

Under-the-hood update
Proton 10.0-4 comes with updated components that enable these improvements, including new versions of VKD3D (the Vulkan translation layer from Direct3D 12) and Wine Mono 10.4.1. Although the leap to Wine 11 isn’t here yet, this update lays a solid foundation for future benefits.

What is a proton and why does it matter?
